I was inspired to become a therapist through my own therapeutic journey. Experiencing firsthand how powerful therapy can be in fostering growth and resilience motivated me to create that same space for others. While all our journeys are unique, we can relate to each other through shared emotions. I seek to create a safe space where people feel heard, seen and valued, a supportive and healing space, a space where your journey can be heard not with judgment, but with compassion. Building a strong and trusting relationship is a priority. I do this by actively listening without judgment, validating feelings, and taking the time to understand unique experiences and perspectives. I also encourage open communication, inviting feedback to ensure you feel your voice is valued throughout our work together. My goal is to walk alongside you in your journey, meeting you with empathy, compassion, and respect every step of the way. Working collaboratively to explore your thoughts and challenges creates a trusting and supportive environment where you can feel comfortable being your authentic self. Building trust and a strong therapeutic alliance is a gradual process rooted in open communication and mutual respect. In sessions, I will take the time to get to know you, understanding your goals, values, beliefs, your unique self. We will work together at your pace, adjusting approaches based on what you feel is helpful and supportive. Your communication and feedback will strengthen the collaborative process and empower your role in the therapeutic journey.

My therapeutic approach deals with stories, and I am interested in including modern ways of storytelling into the work we do through digital media, technology, and even video games. I believe that stories are created through a variety of mediums that include art, play, and experience. I encourage the people I work with to explore all of the ways they have to come to know the world around them to make our time together even more fun, engaging, and relevant to you. In my practice, my goal is to collaborate with my clients in better understanding how they’ve storied their lives, challenging dominant narratives and systems of oppression, and exploring more preferred ways of being. The theories that inform my work include: narrative therapy, collaborative therapy, solution-focused therapy, play therapy, motivational interviewing, and strength-based therapy. Someone who might be interested in working with me is open and willing to explore the different ways that therapy can "be"! I invite collaboration and exploration in the work we do together, so feel free to bring the passions that drive you along with the obstacles you are facing into the room. Music, art, games, movies, even the people in your life are all resources to bring to therapy that can help to better understand the person you want to be and the story you want to tell. My experience as a queer, 1st generation Filipino-American is what inspires me to support others in their identity development. Navigating the endless messages and oppressive narratives that make up the modern, cultural milieu can be overwhelming and limiting. My hope is to create a non-judgmental space where the people I work with can challenge these dominant social narratives that attempt to tell them who they are or who they should be and begin crafting their own unique, preferred sense of self. I believe in challenging the notion that therapy is apolitical. I believe that the work that we do in attempt to better ourselves as individuals undoubtedly impacts and is impacted by those arounds us whether it's friends, loved ones, neighbors, or strangers across the globe. This is why I use social justice framework in my practice as I hope to promote total wellbeing not just for the client but for the larger communities and systems we are a part of.

Hi, I'm Katerina from Fire Poppy Therapy! I understand that we can't just "find 5 blue objects around me" to be able to deal with life's stressors, so let's work together to find some practical ways to process, cope, and thrive in the spaces you're in. I aim to make the therapy experience authentic and validating for those I work with. Believe it or not, you do know and have intuition of what's best for you, so we'll spend our time working to get the echoes of naysayers out of your head and amplifying the encouragement from yourself and others. The approach I take with our sessions is a more relaxed style and I use a variety of techniques to inform how I support you. I value practical self care and coping strategies, honoring your roots, and empowering my clients with knowledge about how their body and brain work. I also like to balance humor with reflection, encouragement with accountability. Check out my website for more info and/or send me an email if you'd like to set up a complimentary 15 minute Zoom meet-n-greet. Whether we work together or not, I hope you find what you need. [**side note for any clarification purposes] I'm firmly supportive of the following Communities in alpha order: Armenian, Congolese, Haitian, NHAAPI, Neurodiverse, Palestinian, PGM (People of the Global Majority), Pro-Liberation, Queer, Sudanese, SWANA.

I obtained my masters from Pepperdine University and I began my career in community services. My approach is straight forward and empathic. I identify as a first gen, cis gender Latina of Mexican descent. I offer EMDR, and also incorporate somatic interventions, a systemic framework, attachment theory, and CBT strategies. I love equipping clients with tools and honoring what comes to surface in our sessions together. I love working with adolescents, complex trauma, early adults transitioning in life and adults who struggle with anxiety, trauma, sexual abuse and depression. I work with clients to provide a safe space to explore their current life challenges and work collaboratively with clients. I work with clients to help them find tools they can use to navigate their daily life in a positive and healthy way. I believe you’re the expert of your experience - no one knows your life better than you. Together, we can create a deepened awareness around what’s working, what’s not & what strengths you already have that need nurturing. I work with clients to consider and name how various systems at play impact the life you live and the work we do. I take the role of earning your trust very seriously, and find it an honor to be part of your journey.

Adjusting to college can be overwhelming. Even though this is a life event that is planned, it can still be a culture shock for many. Making new friends, adjusting to a different type of structure, and being away from family and loved ones for the first time can increase feelings of anxiety. You might find yourself over-analyzing your social interactions with your peers in a way that you didn't do with your childhood friends whom you've known for the majority of your life, or maybe you are having a hard time managing your class schedule and assignments when school came easy to you in the past. Whatever may be coming up for you, I am here to support you. We will work together to develop helpful coping skills to manage feelings of stress and anxiety, calm the negative self-talk that often comes with increased stress, and process your recent life transition in order to feel more at ease with the change. My approach is warm, casual, and strength-based. I use gentle and validating conversation to help improve your confidence, challenge your inner-critic when it tries to take over, and make you feel empowered to take your anxiety head-on. Finding a therapist and making the initial step to start therapy can be intimidating and overwhelming. I invite you to contact me for a free initial consultation so I can answer your questions, address any worries or concerns about therapy, and ensure my therapy style is what you are looking for.

We all experience different struggles at one time or another throughout our life. The transition into or out of college is often filled with a lot of uncertainty and stress. This can be with coursework, friendships, roommates, exploring sexuality and independence. Therapy is a way to assist you in embracing your current situation and moving through, rather than getting stuck or spiraling backward. Life can be complex and challenging, it can require extra support to help move through the struggles we may be experiencing. In our first few sessions I will learn more about your current situation and discuss treatment options I feel you may benefit form and what has worked for you in the past. We will work together from there to develop a plan that you are comfortable with and work together to reach your goals. Taking the first step to reach out and ask for help is often the biggest hurdle. Feel free to reach out for a free 15 minute consultation to see if therapy with me is right for you!

Are you feeling stressed, overwhelmed, confused, or depressed? Are you feeling disconnected or lost as you navigate your college journey? Wondering if you may have impostor syndrome? Are you procrastinating and cannot find any motivation to study? Having family conflicts? Relationship issues? Boundary issues? You are not alone! I have experience working with people from all walks of life. I am here to support and collaborate with you to meet your needs and develop new skills to help you feel happier in life. There is no one-size-fits-all counseling approach. I have always used person-centered and integrated therapy approaches to help my clients, such as Cognitive-behavioral therapy, Solution-focused therapy, Narrative therapy, Play therapy, EMDR therapy, Brainspotting, Gottman Couple therapy and Art therapy. I have found that we are all unique individuals who have similar experiences but unique details in life. Since I began counseling, each modality and approach has its pros and cons; we cannot always rely on one modality or approach to handle every situation. Sometimes, being creative and flexible can help my clients better understand themselves. I have had many counselors in my life, from academic counselors to mental health counselors, and they all have brought me wisdom to help me identify my issues and have helped me realize nothing is more important than our health. Having healthy communication skills and learning about others’ cultures and practices can reduce anxiety between both parties. We often have various unique obstacles to face, but if we can be flexible to adapt to our challenges and find alternatives and resources, this can be our key to problem-solving and a huge step to our success.

We all have the capacity for healing through self-discovery, self-awareness, and community. My role is to ease clients into a journey of healing, becoming more authentic in their creative works and relationships, and challenging inner dialogue that does not serve them by finding compassion and empathy for themselves. I engage my clients by creating a safe space where we can collaboratively work on developing a more intimate relationship with the "inner self." I'm a warm, intuitive, empathetic, and connected therapist who can be a witness to your journey. I primarily work from anti-racist, trauma-informed, attachment and somatic modes of therapy paying close attention to clients’ varying identities, intersection of these identities, and understanding their experience from a socio-cultural perspective. Mind-body connections, ancestral wisdom, social justice and multiculturalism are central to my approach. My passion and experience lies in working with young adults, artists and creatives, individuals from the BIPOC and LGBTQIA community, women, and partners engaging in family planning. I have significant experience in guiding individuals seeking gender confirming treatment, navigating medical systems, and exploring gender and sexual orientation identity.
