I’m a licensed social worker and humanitarian deeply committed to supporting individuals and communities navigating the impacts of conflict, trauma, and inequality. My work centers on creating safe, compassionate spaces where healing, growth, and resilience can take root. Together, we’ll explore what wellness looks like for you, drawing on your strengths and wisdom every step of the way. Whether you’re seeking to process a difficult experience, reconnect with yourself, or simply need a place to breathe and reflect, I’m here to walk alongside you. Esther Horowitz MA, LPC, CCTP is a bilingual (Spanish/English) mental health counselor who graduated as a Clinical Psychologist from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, (Ecuador) in 2013. Esther has worked in various environments including working with court-ordered clients for DUI, DV, and Anger Management. Esther has worked at CU Boulder since 2018 supporting staff and faculty offering bilingual counseling for individuals, couples and families. Esther has worked with individuals, families, relationships/couples for over a decade and is passionate about a holistic approach to mental health. Feel free to reach out via email or phone, and she will get back to you in no more than 48 business hours.

My goal is to help you find new ways to relate to the world and to enable you to embrace your experiences more fully and bravely. I hope to do this by creating a safe, open, and collaborative environment where you can experiment with new ways of relating to yourself and others. I bring in skills from therapies, such as ACT and DBT, to help you find your strengths and develop your resources. And I recognize that the most growth occurs in an authentic relationship which balances compassion with challenge and emphasizes social justice and intersectionality. Having recovered from an eating disorder, I approach my work from a Health-at-Every-Size and fat-positive framework. All bodies are good bodies, all foods are good foods, and all emotions are valid. I also have experience working with interpersonal trauma, grief, relationship struggles, disordered eating and body image concerns, and identity development, as well as anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns.
I have been working in the outpatient setting for over 10 years. I've rotated through a student mental health clinic during my training and have worked with many college aged students. College can be an exciting time of change and growth and finding purpose and connection. College can also be a big adjustment, as you acclimate to a new setting, new responsibilities and being away from home for an extended period, sometimes for the first time. It is often during these big life changes that you may need a little extra help settling in, getting into new routines. Through a combination of therapy and careful use of medication, we can work on getting you in a place to fully engage in and enjoy your college experience.

As an intuitive soul, I facilitate clients of all ages through a transformative and empowering process that results in meaningful integration, alignment to calling, and a curiosity around personal and interpersonal depth. My aim is to serve clients who are awakening to their innermost authenticity and truth. My work is informed by evidenced-based practices, astrology, myth, transpersonal methodologies and Ecopsychology.
Welcome and thank you for taking this first step toward becoming the best version of you! As a student, you already have some much to deal with without the added stress of anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, substance use issues, trauma/PTSD, grief and loss or whatever it is that you are currently dealing with. I am here to help carry some of that burden while we work toward the life you want, together. As a therapist, I value open, collaborative communication. You know yourself best and I am here to take your lead and support you in whatever capacity you need. I have experience and passion working with all the challenges listed previously. I look forward to starting this journey with you.
"Finding that there is more to life, beyond food and fear" . . . is the heart of my therapeutic philosophy. Most of my clients live in fear around how much food they eat . . . or do not eat. Their relationship with food has devolved into one of pain and hiding versus pleasure and health. I use a Gestalt approach which gives voice to a person’s two conflicting parts: the part wanting to hold onto the old, comfortable eating patterns and their "benefits", and the part yearning to let go for permanent growth and healing. Clients ultimately can reach a place where they discover choice, freedom and a healthy relationship with food. What I offer, that is different, is a no-frills, direct approach . . backed with over 20 years of extensive counseling practice and hands-on experience working with a wide continuum of mental health and addictions issues. My approach works for many clients as I truly believe that effective counseling deals with "unfinished business" and patterns from our past, which play out in our lives today. Once identified and challenged, clients can then find "choice" and make the key changes that will truly sustain into the future. Most people who contact me are already aware that they are doing their best AND that something is not working and needs to change. Are you up for a change? Please note, I do not accept insurance through my private practice but you can find me on the Sondermind platform to potentially use your insurance.

I work with adolescents and adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression or have been through tough times and want to heal from trauma. Therapy can be a great way to process these changes, learn new ways to cope with stress, and get resources and support. I'd love to chat.
You’re feeling stuck and you are so ready to make progress, but you’re questioning every decision. You hear people talk about “inner knowing” but you are so disconnected that it feels like your compass is broken, and you have no idea which way to go, or how to get there, or where “there” is. Feeling stuck, confused, unsure how to move forward - these can be related to anxiety and depression, or they can be the symptoms of going through big life transitions. Or both. If you find yourself scrolling through social media, numbing out with Netflix, waking up dreading the day, or just feeling a bit lost — I’m here for you. My therapeutic style is non-judgemental, but also honest. With your permission, I will brainstorm with you, make suggestions and offer guidance. I won’t give you my answers as if they are the only right ones. The answers are inside you. My job is to help you bring them to the surface. My specialty is in helping you to get in touch with your inner knowing so you can navigate life transitions with clarity and confidence, move through grief, process trauma, get a grip on overwhelm and anxiety, and find the best way to move forward. I can’t wait to meet you.
“With adversity comes opportunity” from the I Ching- Or Book of Changes The decision to seek therapy can be due to times of stress or the desire to seek change. We know that change is not always a straight path. To take a “road less traveled” can be filled with a beautiful river that flows and leads to clarity or it be a be a river filled with large boulders that need to be traversed with help and support. Therapy can be a tool that facilitates resilience and transformation. My approach in therapy is to first engage in a process of discovery. As your therapist, we will work together to discover what events, situations, and relationships in your life or your past do not work for you now. It is really important to understand how your life works in order to set goals and create change. Most importantly, it is important to remember that change affects all the people in your life.
