Whether you're navigating the aftermath of trauma; finding your footing in a new city, state, or country; or sitting with grief, anxiety, or questions about who you are, you don't have to figure it out alone. As an LPC candidate with three years of experience, my work centers on helping people process trauma, move through major life transitions, and build lives that feel meaningful and aligned with their values. Survivors of trauma, sexual violence, domestic abuse, and natural disasters are at the heart of my practice, and so are immigrants and refugees working to build a new life in a new culture. Beyond trauma recovery, support is available for grief and loss; questions related to sex, sexuality, and relationships; and the very real anxiety that can come from living through climate change and other global stressors. Many of the people who come to me are trying therapy for the very first time, and finding practical, tangible ways to improve daily life is something we work toward together from the start. Therapy is also available in Spanish for those who prefer it. This is your process, and collaboration is at the center of everything we do together. The therapeutic space we build will be safe, transparent, and gently challenging – a place where growth feels possible without pressure. Drawing primarily from EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Narrative Therapy, my work is tailored to help you process trauma, reconnect with your body and values, and shift beliefs and patterns that are no longer serving you. When a particular approach or intervention seems useful, the reasoning behind it will always be shared with you, and your feedback shapes what comes next. You are the expert on your own life. My role is to help that self-expertise shine through, and to make sure the practical strategies we build together are ones you can actually use beyond our sessions to make lasting, meaningful improvements in your daily life. I know what it's like to not have all the answers right away. My path to becoming a therapist didn't begin until my mid-thirties, after years of different careers, different countries, and many different versions of the question “who am I?” Those years of exploration ultimately made it clearer than ever that this work is what was meant for me. All of these varied experiences and perspectives come into the room with us. More importantly, they inform how deeply committed I am to helping you sit with your own uncertainty, to recognize its value, and to use it as a starting point for moving toward your own internal wisdom. Creative expression is a big part of life outside the therapy room. Writing, watercolors, and pottery are longtime passions, and languages are another, always learning, always looking for opportunities to connect across cultures. Traveling and trying new foods (and then attempting to recreate them at home) bring a lot of joy, as does time spent with my cat, Ernie.

Hi, I’m Jose Mathew, DBH, LCSW, LAC, CCTP I’m the founder of Mountain Valley Behavioral Health, and I believe therapy works best when people feel safe, understood, and genuinely supported rather than judged or rushed into anything. Over the past decade, I’ve worked with individuals, couples, and families navigating anxiety, trauma, depression, substance use, burnout, relationship stress, and major life transitions. Many of the people I work with carry more than they show on the surface. They may feel emotionally exhausted, disconnected, overwhelmed, stuck in survival mode, or unsure where to begin. My role is to help create space to slow down, make sense of what’s happening, and work toward meaningful change together. My approach to therapy is collaborative, grounded, and practical. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all model. Every person has a unique story, stressors, and strengths. I work to understand the full picture—including emotional health, nervous system regulation, trauma history, relationships, physical health, and daily stress—so treatment feels personalized and relevant to your life. I use an integrated, trauma-informed approach that combines evidence-based therapies with authentic human connection. Depending on your needs, our work may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, EMDR-informed interventions, mindfulness, nervous system regulation strategies, and practical tools to improve emotional balance, communication, and coping skills. I also understand that starting therapy can feel uncomfortable, especially if you’ve spent a long time holding things together on your own. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Therapy is not about being “broken.” It’s about finding a place to process what you’ve been carrying, better understand yourself, and build healthier ways to move forward. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, trauma, stress, substance use, relationship challenges, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life, my goal is to help you feel supported, empowered, and more connected to yourself and others. Areas I Commonly Work With • Trauma & PTSD • Anxiety & Chronic Stress • Depression & Emotional Burnout • Substance Use & Recovery • Co-Occurring Mental Health Concerns • Relationship & Communication Challenges • Family Conflict • Nervous System Dysregulation • Men’s Mental Health • Life Transitions & Identity Stress • Integrated Behavioral Health Treatment Approaches • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) • Trauma-Informed Therapy • Motivational Interviewing • EMDR-Informed Interventions • Strengths-Based Therapy • Mindfulness & Somatic Strategies • Integrated Behavioral Health Care Credentials • Doctor of Behavioral Health (DBH) • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) • Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) • Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) • EMDR-Trained (EMDR-T) • Certified Clinical Trauma Professional II (CCTP-II) A Final Thought I believe healing happens through connection, honesty, and learning to work with yourself rather than against yourself. Therapy is not about perfection; it’s about creating sustainable change, improving quality of life, and helping you feel more grounded, present, and capable in your day-to-day life.

You and your life isn’t one note. You are multifaceted and the demands you face happen to be as well – particularly when you are a student. Currently, the sound-track of your life has moved away from the sounds of a harmonious symphony -or maybe from an upbeat pop song- to something more unnerving and stressful (like the alarm you use to wake up to in the morning or the background music in a horror film—building tension, bracing yourself from some known or unknown threat). It makes sense that life has been overwhelming -increased responsibilities and life demands alone would contribute to this feeling. Add fears about the future, a recent breakup, challenging relationship dynamics with family, and/or other stressors and you might find yourself tipping the scales of your emotional bandwidth. I help students focus on the unique aspects of their lives that are no longer serving them – with empathy, tools, problem-solving, and emotional healing and growth. I believe you can have a richer and higher-quality of life– free from the overwhelming influence of your current life demands, harmful past experiences, poor modeling, and environmental toxicities (psychological). Finding the right support is a meaningful first step, and I'm glad you're here. As a Limited License Counselor Candidate, I specialize in anxiety, life transitions, and depression, working with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. Whether you're navigating a difficult season, working through persistent worry, or simply looking for a space to grow, I'm here to walk alongside you. Empathy, integrity, and collaboration are at the heart of how I show up for every person I work with. Together, we'll build insight, develop practical coping skills, and work toward the meaningful growth you're looking for. When you come to a session, you can expect warmth, encouragement, and a genuine sense of collaboration. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), we'll work together to build practical coping skills that help you better manage anxiety, depression, emotional stress, and life transitions. But beyond the modalities, what matters most to me is that you feel truly heard. Your unique experiences, values, and goals shape everything we do together. Care here is strengths-based and tailored to who you are, because you deserve more than a one-size-fits-all approach. You deserve a space that feels personal, safe, and empowering, and that's exactly what I'm committed to creating for you. Before becoming a therapist, I spent years as an elementary school teacher, where I witnessed firsthand the growing need for mental health support among students and their families. These years were transformative, deepening my understanding of how compassionate, accessible care can change lives and reinforcing my commitment to making a real difference in the people I serve. That purpose drives everything I bring to our sessions now, including a strong foundation of empathy and a genuine investment in your well-being. Reading, biking, and spending time with family are some of the things that bring me joy and keep me grounded. Visiting Michigan and spending time along the shores of Lake Huron holds a special place in my heart, connecting me to the people and places I love most.

Hello, I'm Hope. A lot of us struggle to prioritize our wellness while balancing daily tasks, stressors, and especially during major life transitions such as college, career changes, relationship changes, and so on. Maybe you’re juggling college classes, being away from home and learning about this “adulting” thing. Or maybe you’re wondering how you became the adult & who let you be in charge?! If you’ve lost a sense of balance, if you live your life like everything is urgent, you are in the right place. If you’re not sure what you want or who you want to be but you feel a pressure to do it well (perhaps even perfectly!), I’m so glad you found me and I hope you’ll reach out!

Do you lie awake at night, sheets twisting beneath you, worst-case scenarios running through your head? On social media, you’re bombarded with horrific news of terrorist attacks, plane crashes, mass shootings. The unremarkable posts hurt just as much. Captions like “My mom is the best! I’d be lost without her!” make you clench up inside, heat coursing through your veins. People tell you to “Stay strong,” but they have no idea what you’ve been through. After experiencing trauma, nothing feels safe or certain. You want to curl up on the couch and push everything else away. I am so glad you are here. You deserve to be seen, heard and understood. With an outstretched hand, I will meet you where you are and together we can walk towards wholeness and healing. Imagine waking up fully rested, enjoying that smooth cup of coffee, driving to work confident that you can handle the day’s challenges and feeling fully present in your life. I’m ready to help you heal from trauma. Let's shed the shame and weight so you feel calm and in control. Send me an email today so we can schedule our first session. You deserve to take up space. You are worth it.

Healing is rarely a straight path, and having the right support can make all the difference. As a mental health therapist, my work centers on helping adults 18 and older from diverse backgrounds navigate the ways mental health shapes their personal, professional, and social lives, whether that means managing everyday stress or working through more complex challenges. My commitment is to meet you exactly where you are, as a collaborative partner on your therapeutic journey, to help you build the tools and insight needed to move forward. Together, we'll work toward the clarity, resilience, and hope you deserve. Compassionate, humorous, and guided by you — that's the foundation of how I show up for every person I work with. I believe deeply in the healing power of human connection, and getting to witness that unfold in practice is what drives me. At all times, you can expect a nonjudgmental space where laughter is always welcome alongside the harder conversations. My style is empathetic and adaptive, drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Mindfulness-based approaches to strengthen your sense of well-being across all areas of life. Your unique goals, experiences, and needs shape the direction of our work together, because the most meaningful progress happens when care is truly tailored to you. My path to becoming a therapist began with first being a patient myself. This experience gave me a deep appreciation for the courage it takes to seek support and the profound impact attentive, caring treatment can have on a person's life. Today, that lived experience informs every session I offer. Alongside my clinical training, it grounds me in empathy and authentic presence, and I'm just as eager to learn from your story as I am to share the tools that may help you write the next chapter. Outside of the therapy room, you'll find me recharging through creative and outdoor pursuits. Drawing and painting offer a meditative outlet, while fishing and archery bring a welcome sense of patience and focus. Reading keeps my curiosity alive, and regular walks help me stay grounded, a practice I find just as valuable in everyday life as in the work we do together.

Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or disconnected? You’re not alone and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. I work best with college and graduate students who are carrying a lot on their shoulders, even if it doesn’t always show on the outside. Many of the students I support are struggling with anxiety, stress, or burnout. They may be navigating big life transitions like starting college, transferring, or getting close to graduation. Some are dealing with family stress, relationship challenges, or attachment issues. Others are carrying the impact of past trauma or loss. Many feel disconnected from themselves and unsure of who they are or what direction they want to take. You might look high-functioning on the outside but feel exhausted, overwhelmed, or numb on the inside. You may be the one everyone depends on, yet you rarely feel supported yourself. If that sounds like you, you’re in the right place. My approach is warm, grounded, and trauma-informed. That means we go at your pace, focus on helping your nervous system feel safer, and work on real-life tools you can actually use between sessions. You do not need to have the right words or a clear goal before starting. Showing up as you are is enough. If you are a student who wants to feel more steady, more connected, and more like yourself again, I would love to support you.

I often work with students who are dealing with anxiety, school stress, family conflict, or feeling overwhelmed by expectations. You might feel like you’re trying to keep everything together while struggling on the inside. In therapy, we’ll slow things down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and develop skills that help you feel more grounded in yourself and supported in life. I also encourage parent coaching sessions to help caregivers learn tools to better support their child’s emotional growth.

As someone who’s always loved the creative process and felt deeply attuned to the inner world, I believe that our emotions and sensations carry important messages. They can guide us toward understanding ourselves, healing, and finding balance — especially in a college environment where it’s easy to get caught up in expectations, pressure, and constant thinking. When we disconnect from how we feel in order to “get things done,” it can lead to burnout, anxiety, or a sense of numbness. In our work together, we’ll take time to slow down and reconnect — using somatic (body-based) techniques, art-making, mindfulness, and personal reflection to help you better understand what’s happening inside. This process can be especially meaningful if you’re exploring identity, navigating relationships, managing stress, or living with neurodivergence. I support students who are dealing with anxiety, chronic pain, trauma, perfectionism, or who simply feel “different” or overwhelmed by the world. My approach is grounded in the belief that you already hold the wisdom and insight you need — my role is to help you access it with curiosity and compassion. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Transpersonal Art Therapy from Naropa University. I’m also an artist, yoga teacher, and trained in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). In sessions, I integrate talk therapy, art therapy, mindfulness, KAP work, and somatic practices to create a collaborative space for exploration, growth, and self-discovery. If you’re curious about working together or just want to learn more, I’d love to connect.

College can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, stress, depression, relationship challenges, or adjusting to new responsibilities and life transitions, you don't have to navigate it alone. I work with female college students and young adults who want to better understand themselves, improve their relationships, and feel more confident managing life's challenges. My approach is relational, compassionate, curious, and down-to-earth. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship creates the foundation for meaningful change, and I strive to create a space where you feel genuinely heard, supported, and accepted. I also believe there's room for humor in therapy—healing doesn't have to be serious all the time. Together, we'll explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck, increase self-awareness, and develop practical skills to help you manage emotions, cope with stress, and build a life that feels more aligned with your values. My goal is to help you leave therapy with greater confidence, resilience, and tools you can continue using long after our work together.
