Therapists for college students near 30303
Occasionally we all struggle to stay "on top" of things, or have a hard time keeping up with everything we need to do in a day. For some of us, it's a little more than that. It's constant scrolling through social media to give your brain a break, and that break turns into an hour. Or procrastinating simple tasks like finishing an assignment, or sending an email. Maybe you're having a hard time just waking up and getting out of bed in the morning. It's distressing to feel like you're struggling and not know how to fix it. If this sounds like you, just know: things can get better! Anxiety and depression don't have to rule your life. I'd love to work together with you on topics of general anxiety, self-confidence, identity issues, relationship issues, faith/religious questioning, perfectionism, and depression (and more!). As a CBT therapist, I help you identify areas of difficulty in your routine so we can build skills like self-awareness, coping mechanisms, and self-esteem. We are all learning how to do this thing called Life. And you can learn how to live happily and authentically! I aim to provide a calming space where we can slow down, and work together to better understand and accept the person that you are, and the person you want to be.
Thanks for being here, I'm Liz. I'm a recent graduate of the University of Georgia's Master of Social Work program working as a therapist in Decatur. I'm generally laid-back, welcoming, direct, and use the occasional swear word, but only if that works for you. I work diligently to create a space that is warm, validating, and also challenging when appropriate. My experience is primarily with LGBQIA+, transgender, and gender-expansive clients, and my approach is supportive, affirming, and integrates advocacy and power analysis. I see adults for individual therapy navigating the following: life transitions and/or identity development boundaries and/or stress religious or spiritual trauma I believe clients are the experts of their own experiences and that a positive, collaborative therapeutic alliance is deeply important. My approach to therapy is grounded in those beliefs, and I work diligently to create a space where clients feel brave, heard, and empowered. I believe therapy should be holistic, pulling from systems theory, strengths-based, and person-centered approaches. I operate from a harm reduction framework and utilize motivational interviewing. I’m currently a licensed social worker (LMSW) under the supervision of Mick Rehrig, LCSW and the direction of Ryan DeVane, LCSW.
I am a trauma-informed provider who specializes in supporting individuals and couples navigating conflict, depression, anxiety, infertility, chronic illness, grief/loss, trauma and transition. One of the bravest things we can do is begin to understand our own stories. Clients I support often grapple with the impact of narratives about who they were, are, or "should be", leaving them questioning, "Do I matter?" or shedding pieces of their identity to generate a sense of belonging. Together, we can explore societal and relational influences on your story, while identifying your values, strengths, options for healing and growth. I believe every client holds expertise in their own experiences and deserves the right to make decisions honoring personal journeys and values. My approach incorporates relational-cultural, feminist, and interpersonal lenses. I utilize the Gottman Method, CBT, DBT, IFS, and MSC strategies, also drawing from 12+ years of experience as a parent and educator. Everyone deserves to experience validation, compassion, and belonging. I am committed to facilitating a space in which you feel understood, valued, and supported as we prioritize your goals, explore your story, and incorporate strategies for reintegrating pieces of your Self so you also can experience increased personal acceptance and relational connection.
Compassion Cove Counseling has a wide range therapists who treat students struggling with depression, anxiety, OCD, executive functioning concerns, and more.

I look forward to speaking with you - let’s see if I would be a good match for your needs! INSURANCE NOTE: I do take Aetna Student Health insurance, however I'm not a CORE provider (Tier 1). I am an In-network (Tier 2), preferred provider with Aetna, and Aetna Student Health Insurance will have a different rate/copy, &/or coinsurance amount for Tier 2 providers than for CORE providers. Although I may be able to explain potential differences in coverage, I encourage you to check your insurance benefits for the differences between in-and out-of-network providers and the difference between core and non-core providers, whether your deductible has been met, and the required copay/co-insurance information for the cost of the session prior to making an appointment.

Hello there! I am Abbie Becker (LMSW), a licensed psychotherapist specializing in DBT, RO-DBT, and CBT for adolescents and young adults. I work with clients that are seeking out services for individual, family, and group therapy. Whether you are new to therapy, ready to return, or wavering at the thought, I’m eager to connect – no matter where you are in life. Before we explore the fundamental question of “What brings you to therapy?”, I think it’s only reasonable for you to become acquainted with your potential therapist. I incorporate my values into practice by instilling authenticity, empathy, kindness, resiliency, and vulnerability. Originating in Metro Atlanta and raised on Georgia football, I received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Georgia, while managing to find my way back to Atlanta for a master’s in clinical social work from Kennesaw State. On any given day, you can find me unapologetically jamming to music, scanning flight deals for my next place of travel, and expressing creativity through unfinished furniture flips, blank canvases, and original jewelry designs. I’m passionate about working with individuals who have challenges with anxiety, depression, mood instability, medical trauma, under-controlled and over-controlled traits, women’s health, belongingness, and self-esteem. With hundreds of relationships established across my diverse experiences with a human trafficking non-profit and three residential facilities - including Hillside, a nationally recognized treatment program - I consistently recognize that no one is too broken, hopeless, or unworthy of having a life that is worth living. The unpredictable elements of life can be overwhelming. At times, it feels like the sun may never rise. However, these are also the bittersweet moments that foster personal growth, and it would be my absolute privilege in guiding you to the warm light. Specialties: Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Personality Disorders, Life Transitions, Perfectionism & Over-Controlled Tendencies, Women’s Issues, Chronic Illness & Medical Invalidation, Parenting, Interpersonal Relationships, Burnout, Self-Esteem, Grief and Loss, and Family Systems Ages: 15+ Modalities: Individual Therapy, Family Therapy, and Parent Coaching Types of Therapy: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
We help people who look happy on the outside actually feel that way on the inside. It's exhausting trying to keep it all together. Most of us expend a huge amount of effort to make it look like our life is perfect; especially on social media. Some of us even relate to the dreaded Imposter Syndrome. While our accomplishments may be lengthy, our relationships and fulfillment are lacking. We understand, and our approach reflects just that. Creating a connection is core to our approach to counseling. We work from a multitude of theoretical frameworks including person-centered, positive psychology, cognitive behavioral, family systems, and solution focused. Much of our experience has been helping people find balance in their lives and re-focus their energies on values important to them.

My goal is helping you find confidence, worth and wellness. If you feel that we are a good fit, please contact me! I am happy to hold a consultation or intake session to ensure the connection feels right for you. Are you feeling overwhelmed under the pressures of facing life transitions, hacking adulthood, success/failure, and your FUTURE, particularly in these stressful, uncertain times? Finding an older adult who really gets it, and opening up to a stranger can also be really stressful- I understand! I promise, I really get all that you may be struggling with and can help you learn to cope with it all better, feel less overwhelmed, and be more confident in your ability to not just be “okay,” but to thrive. I work with a lot of folks in their twenties, and always strive to have a relaxed, supportive, inclusive, affirming, and judgment-free safe space for all clients to help them to learn and determine more about Who they are and want to be, to like and value themselves, manage stress and life better, take on each day confidently, and just generally believe they really can figure it out and do it (whatever “it” is). Through a compassionate trauma-informed, strengths-based lens, I seek to help my clients become empowered to heal, grow, and thrive. I work with adults, including many zoomers and zillennials, from all various backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, faiths, and world-views. While I see that most issues are grounded in some depth of trauma, my focused areas include: anxiety, loss/grief, PTSD and C-PTSD, stress, burnout, perfectionism, Self-Image & Identity, adjustment, attachment wounds / developmental trauma, interpersonal/relationship issues (including w/ family), narcissistic abuse survival, and recovery & relapse prevention. (I also offer a faith-based orientation by client request.) My collaborative approach to therapy does involve talking about life’s issues, but I don’t just repeat things back to you or tell you to change a thought or behavior. I tend to also promote thinking about things from new, alternative perspectives and of yourself in a sense of various parts, to provide comfortable structure and accountability, help you identify and then to understand the real reasons WHY patterns have developed & happen, and to learn how to feel safe, grounded, and regulated within yourself - no matter where you are. I’d say I take a Whole-istic mind-body stance, and often use neuro-somatic techniques, including Brainspotting (BSP) and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) to help reduce reactive feelings, as well as the integration of therapeutic psychedelics for deeper healing. Call, text, or email me whenever you’re ready, and let’s discuss your therapy needs and goals for being the best version of your Self! Lara Eddleman, MS, LPC, CCTP
