Therapists for college students near Duke University
Suzie has extensive experience working in mental health using several different unique modalities including sand tray and expressive art. Suzie is passionate about helping children and adults through physical, emotional or sexual abuse. After completing her Masters Degree at Liberty University, she held an internship position at Transitional Counseling Center working with the sex offender population while earning her Provisional Sex Offender Treatment Provider (PSOTP) certification. At the same time Suzie worked at Riverside Hospital conducting groups with schizophrenia clients in a day program unit. She later worked in a private practice setting working with a sex therapist with a focus on the LGBT, transgender and sex addiction population. She has also completed her training as an Approved Clinical Supervisor. Suzie has also completed her training in EMDR, a trauma focused psychotherapy, one of the most studied treatment for PTSD and found this very effective with the VA clients she is currently serving. Suzie has also worked in various roles associated with crisis intervention and volunteered at a domestic violence shelter for women and children. Suzie believes that each individual is unique. Her treatment approach is customized to bring greater self-awareness, psychological healing, and inner satisfaction. Suzie has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in treating psychosis, anxiety disorders, depression, self-esteem issues, mood disorders, and other issues faced in the journey of life. In addition to providing wellness counseling, she works with multiple issues requiring mild to more intensive therapy skills and complicated grief, caregiver, and mood management issues. Therefore, Suzie believes it is important to incorporate a knowledge of one’s thinking process to overcome a negative feeling.
I believe there is no true beginning or end to Healing, working on ourselves, or trying to have forward motion in our lives (but that it DOES get better!), so any entry point into counseling as a tool in those processes is the right one. /"This is heart work, and you can't think your way around this; you've gotta feel your way through it." / /"The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind."/ The therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance. I will ask you to face hard things in our work together, so I expect of myself that same call for transparency and authenticity- I do my best to live out Brene Brown's concept of "getting in the arena" with you. I also try to instill hope and light (I know I sure need it); we will also laugh! Healing requires both grit and softness. This work is such an honor, and it has become built into the fiber of my being. Please come as you are- I hope you can trust yourself to take the next step, no matter how many steps have already been taken or how many you feel have yet to be taken.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor experienced in individual and group therapy with young adults and college students. In addition to supporting college students during their journey, I enjoy working with adult clients who experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief, racism-related and other complex traumas, and identity exploration. My style of therapy is relational, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive. I often draw from existential, gestalt, and narrative-based interventions. I can answer any questions you have about my approach in your consultation. In my free time, I enjoy writing poetry and making music with my bandmates. As a queer Black woman, I welcome all identities, orientations, and expressions in my office.
I enjoy working with my clients and helping them achieve their goals and become the best version of themselves. I like to get to know my clients and find out what is important to them, it's not what I think you need to work on it's what you want to address.

Most of us need help, at one time or another in our lives, and asking for help is not always easy. However, it is important to realize our own limitations and allow yourself to feel better. Hello, and welcome. I'm Avianna Marcelin, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Carolina. I earned my Master of Social Work from Winthrop University and take an eclectic approach to therapy, tailoring treatment to meet each client's unique needs and goals. I enjoy working with folks from all walks of life who may experience depression, anxiety, or have a history of trauma. My goal is to create a collaborative therapeutic relationship where you feel supported as you work toward greater well-being and personal growth.
Are you seeking a space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported? Life can be full of challenges, transitions, and moments of uncertainty, but you don't have to navigate them alone. My approach is collaborative and compassionate, focusing on helping you uncover insights, build resilience, and create meaningful change. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, or simply feeling stuck, we'll work together to identify your goals and explore paths toward healing and growth. With a focus on mindfulness, self-discovery, and transformation, I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment where you can grow.
Hello, and congratulations! Whether you realized or not, you just took your first step on the road toward becoming a better you. Let’s face it – being a human can be tough. Life transitions happen and can be scary, sometimes shaking us to our core. Helping you work through your past, present, and planning for a brighter future is where I come in. Even if it doesn’t always feel like it, you are in the driver’s seat of your own life. With that realization comes responsibility but also power. It is my life’s joy to empower others to design the life that they have always envisioned for themselves. When you are ready, we will uncover barriers, bust through obstacles, and build you up to where you are ready to take on the world. Some of those barriers could be past experiences that are causing you to experience trauma symptoms or memories that can weigh you down like a backpack full of books. You may be able to carry on for a while, but in time that backpack is going to slow down your progress and ability to maintain present activities. One of my favorite quotes is, “Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards,” by Soren Kierkegaard. Countless people before you have joined with a therapist or counselor and benefited from an objective view of their life and experiences. That is my goal, to look down from above and help you see things in a different light. Now for some information on my background: I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Music Performance from the University of TN at Chattanooga in 2013. I then went on to earn my Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the same university in 2016. Since then, I have worked intensely with youth and families at a nonprofit agency. I have experience with many various mental health issues and diagnoses and I particularly enjoy working with family issues. I have training in several models including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), Community Advocacy Project (CAP), and Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA). My therapeutic approach is collaborative, action- and goal-oriented. When we meet, I want to make sure you leave feeling validated but also with some tools to put into practice in your life outside of session. We will set goals together and regularly check in on progress toward these goals, determining where revisions may be needed. Also, no matter what life outside of session is like, I want to create a calm and safe space for you to be able to think and process clearly. If you have any questions about me or what to expect, feel free to reach out. I’m looking forward to working with you!
Charlie Health is a virtual behavioral health program for adolescents and young adults with moderate or severe mental health concerns or co-occurring substance use or eating disorders. Designed to meet the needs of those who require more than weekly therapy, our program combines curated group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy into personalized treatment programs. We are helping to serve those who are in crisis, or have been historically underserved, by eliminating the most significant treatment barriers: geographical and financial access. We work with nearly all commercial insurance nationwide and have no waitlist, thereby helping people access quality, evidence-based care regardless of insurance, location, or other barriers.
