Therapists for college students near New York University
You don’t need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. You may only know that something feels difficult, that a familiar way of coping is no longer working, or that you want your life or relationships to feel different. In therapy, we work together to understand the thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and experiences shaping your struggles. As a therapist, I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, and major life transitions. I'll help you build practical coping and emotional regulation skills, approach yourself with greater self-compassion, clarify your values, and respond to challenges with more flexibility and intention. The goal is to strengthen self-trust and create changes that feel meaningful, realistic, and sustainable. I believe meaningful change becomes possible when you feel understood enough to be honest and supported enough to try something new, and my role is to be that steady, compassionate, and active partner as you make sense of what you're carrying and recognize the patterns shaping your choices. We can begin where you are and work toward greater clarity, emotional steadiness, and meaningful change in everyday life. Working with me is warm, collaborative, and active. I create space for you to feel heard while also helping you look honestly at patterns that may be contributing to your distress. In our sessions, I ask thoughtful and sometimes direct questions, offer practical tools, and gently challenge avoidance, self-criticism, black-and-white thinking, or familiar responses that are no longer serving you. Together, we slow down reactions, explore what lies beneath them, and distinguish productive problem-solving from worry or rumination. My approach balances insight with action: we build emotional awareness, strengthen coping and regulation skills, clarify your needs and values, and practice more flexible ways of responding. The goal is not perfection, but greater self-trust and meaningful change. My path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by more than two decades of experience across countries, careers, cultures, and life roles. Before entering the mental health field, I worked as a lawyer, filmmaker, nonprofit leader, and mother. Moving through these different identities gave me a deep appreciation for how complex and nonlinear life can be, especially when a relationship, career, identity, or familiar way of living begins to change. These experiences strengthened my commitment to compassionate, culturally responsive care grounded in the realities of each person's life. I bring curiosity, steadiness, and respect for the many parts of each patient's story to my practice now, along with an appreciation for the courage it takes to question familiar patterns and begin again. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, writing, and exploring how stories help us understand ourselves and one another. I also value time with my family, which helps me slow down, remain curious, and stay connected to what matters most.
Your emotional wellness is not a luxury – it’s a necessity in an ever-changing society. In order to create real change in your life, you must care for your mental health needs. I provide quality therapy for young professionals in NYC, couples therapy, and perinatal therapy. No matter what your age or relationship status, if you’re here it’s because you’re looking to make a change. Maybe you don’t feel good enough – you’re insecure and not sure what your next step is. Or perhaps you’re overloaded with tasks and your anxiety is through the roof, you’re feeling so overwhelmed that you don’t even know where to begin. Living in a world of anxiety and worry takes a toll on your mental health. If you find yourself not feeling good enough, or you’re taking care of others instead of yourself, it might be time to seek help. I support people going through major life transitions such as becoming a parent, starting a relationship or dealing with the breakup, having work-related stress, becoming an entrepreneur, or getting through graduate school. I also work with clients who suffer from low self-esteem and those who feel like there’s something in the way of enjoying life. By providing safe and supportive space in therapy, I empower clients to feel good about themselves, build resiliency and take steps towards greater happiness. In my practice, I believe that therapy shouldn’t be a one-size-fits-all experience. I utilize elements of CBT, Internal Family Therapy, Mindfulness, and Gestalt therapies which are tailored to your unique needs. You will learn coping skills to manage anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship problems, social anxiety, and criticism. Hi, I’m Dianne. I’m glad you’re here! I’m here to support you to be free from fear and anxiety, align to inner guidance, develop nourishing relationships, and make choices from a place of love, curiosity, and possibility. My intention is that our sessions allow you to feel deeply known, and that through our work you’ll feel more free to be authentic in your life and relationships. Together, we’ll get to know you — your patterns, your strengths, your desires — so you become your own best teacher, with me as a steady support along the way. I hold a Master’s of Social Work from Smith College. I’ve worked with individuals of diverse ages, identities, and backgrounds in community mental health in New York City and in educational settings including San Francisco International High School and Vassar College. I trained in post-abortion counseling with Exhale Pro Voice, and I participated in FemSex, now called GenSex, an anti-oppression workshop for people of all identities about sexuality, gender, consent, and privilege. Before returning to school to train as a therapist, I worked for several years in international women’s rights, food justice, and bilingual education. I draw from psychodynamic, relational, somatic, mindfulness, and compassion-based approaches. If you’re struggling with anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, or questions of meaning and purpose, let’s talk.

As a therapist, I provide evidence-based psychotherapy (CBT and ACT) to women and young adults experiencing a range of symptoms and life stressors. My specialties include depression, anxiety, stress and coping skills, dating and relationships, self-esteem, meditation/mindfulness, and ADHD. My goal is to help people understand why they feel and act the way they do, while helping them navigate this difficult world with compassion, kindness, and grace. It was my own journey of mindfulness and self-discovery that led me to pursue a career as a psychotherapist. Prior to receiving my Master of Social Work from NYU, I was working in international fashion sales. When not doing the work I love, you can find me at a meditation retreat, a yoga class, or cooking up (mostly) vegan treats!
As a therapist and Licensed Master Social Worker, I help young adults, adults, and couples navigate attachment and relationship issues, anxiety, codependency, relationship issues, depression, trauma, OCD, and life transitions. I believe that the perspectives we hold make up our reality, which helps me meet people where they are without judgment and work toward realistic goals. I look forward to reflecting, analyzing, and learning about who you are and how you navigate the world during our time together. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and real to better guide you in developing greater self-awareness, building healthier relationships, and feeling empowered in your life. You are encouraged to achieve these goals in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment tailored to your unique needs, situations, and way of thinking. Your customized treatment may include attachment-based and patient-centered approaches to help you understand yourself and your experiences as well as develop practical tools for change. My path to becoming a therapist began with a strong interest in understanding people and their unique experiences and, in turn, how to support them through difficult moments in their lives. Through my work with children, teens, and families in crisis settings, I developed a deep commitment to providing empathetic, practical, and culturally responsive care. These unique experiences and perspectives allow me to bring genuine curiosity, therapeutic wisdom, and real discussion to each session. Outside of patient care, I enjoy a wide range of hobbies, from running and skiing to cooking and journaling.
I love working with college students and young adults. I understand what a complex and sometimes overwhelming time of life this can be; whether you find yourself struggling with anxiety, depression, or difficulty navigating your relationships, I am truly passionate about supporting my clients in their process to gain deeper self-understanding and foster personal growth through self-compassion. I work from a place of genuine curiosity and respect each person’s path as unique. I take a warm, supportive, and collaborative approach, using the information that you present (or, in some cases, avoid) to help you make sense of the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may be undermining your relationships and productivity.
Hey there! I am Nyx Melody. I use they/them/their and fae/faer/faers pronouns. I am a queer and non-binary, genderqueer, trans femme New York State licensed psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, educator and consultant on anti-oppression, mental health, and LGBTQIPA2S+ issues. As a first or second generation BIPOC person, do you feel like you are stuck between family expectations, your own dreams, and your own needs? As someone who may be defined as “other” are you having to constantly code switch or suppress who you really are to move between different contexts? Do you feel like you are constantly over giving to the point of not having time or resources to yourself? All of this can easily make you feel depressed, anxious, drained in your relationships, and unfulfilled. My clients come to me in the states that I just described and after working with me report living a life that reflects their values on all levels, a more empowered ability to take up space in the world as a BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ person, and ability to ask for and receive more in their relationships. I take the time to get to know my clients and work in a way that empowers them to identify and dissolve old narratives that are keeping them stuck in unsatisfying relationships or situations through an approach that is both conversational and dives deep. If you resonate, I would love to hear from you for a free initial consultation call.
We are a team of therapists who work with students and young adults navigating stress, identity, and the feeling of having to hold everything together. Many of the students we support are balancing different expectations from family, culture, and their own goals. Some feel caught between different worlds, while others find themselves overthinking, second-guessing, or feeling disconnected from who they are. As a team, we are especially attuned to the experiences of students from multicultural, international, and Asian or Asian American backgrounds. We understand how identity, family dynamics, and expectations can shape the way you move through the world. In this Kind Space, your voice is valued, your story is honored, and every part of you is welcomed. Together, we work to uncover what matters most, address challenges in a way that feels authentic, and build strategies that help you feel grounded, empowered, and more connected to yourself.

I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including trauma, eating disorders, OCD, relationship struggles, and academic stress. I am attuned to the role oppression plays in my patients' lives and am LGBTQIA+ affirming. I enjoy working with students, artists and people with creative practices, those undergoing life transitions, and people seeking to understand intergenerational sources of suffering. My style is warm and nonjudgmental. I am guided by the belief that each person contains inherent strengths and knowledge, and that a primary goal of treatment is to allow for the expression of this unique experience. In our work together, we will move between past and present to understand what it’s like to be you. We will look carefully at your struggles, as well as how you love and dream. This diligent attention to your experience can result in satisfying and often surprising changes in personal, creative, and professional endeavors. In time, this knowledge of the self may also reduce symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and physical pain. I am a New York State licensed master social worker and graduated with honors from Silberman School of Social Work. I am a candidate in adult psychoanalysis at the Contemporary Freudian Society. I have also been trained in the treatment of eating disorders. I have worked with people of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexuality, and class backgrounds. I am dedicated to providing a safe, empathetic space that encourages vulnerable expression. Together, we can unpack your history and develop a better understanding of your life, which sets the foundation for growth and transformation. Are you feeling lost, stuck, confused, unmotivated, or inhibited in some way? Do you have difficulty coping with stress, anxiety, or negative thoughts? Do you want to explore your past, inner world, and relationship patterns? You may want to change your life, but you're not sure how or what to change. Perhaps you feel like you're not living in alignment with who you really are, or that there's something blocking you from reaching your potential. You may have trouble managing your emotions, thoughts, or relationships. You may want a place to unpack your history and develop a better understanding of yourself. If you relate to any of the feelings above, I can help. When we begin work together, we are going on a journey to discover more about what you already know, and what may be hidden beneath the surface. My practice is a space to explore your whole self: thoughts, emotions, desires, past & present, love & hatred, happiness & pain... With this new awareness, you can begin to change.
