Welcome to your therapy journey, or welcome back! Now that you’re here, what do you discuss? How do you begin that conversation about mental health and wellness? As your therapist, I will immerse you in the therapy experience and provide a safe space for you to talk about yourself and what you’re looking for. In my work, I am a queer-affirming therapist who takes a relational approach to therapy, where I encourage you to explore your past relationships and reflect upon how they may have impacted you now. I treat anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, ADHD, life transitions, and negative self-esteem, and work with a diverse range of clients like college students, adults, and individuals in BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ communities. I have experience working in various clinical settings and previously worked at LaGuardia Community College's Wellness Center where I learned how to navigate a college counseling environment while providing care for hard-working students experiencing academic-related concerns. Outside of therapy, I am an artist, a social justice advocate, and an animal lover. If you are interested in booking with me, please schedule an appointment through Greenpoint Psychotherapy’s website. If you are a provider, feel free to email me or send a referral and I will respond accordingly.

Are you experiencing a significant life transition, struggling with anxiety, or seeking to heal from generational or identity-based trauma? You deserve a safe and supportive environment where you can feel seen, heard, and empowered. I specialize in assisting clients from diverse backgrounds—including Latinx, African American, and LGBTQIA communities—in exploring their experiences and developing the skills to thrive. I'm Xioel Terrero, a bilingual (English/Spanish) licensed mental health counselor with degrees from Fordham University and Manhattan College. As an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, I understand the emotional challenges of adapting to a new culture while navigating issues of identity, exclusion, and resilience. These experiences have profoundly influenced my work and fueled my dedication to social justice and equitable care.

Clients come to me when they feel overwhelmed in life. The challenge is that the college experience can exacerbate these issues. It can be hard to navigate not only the academic expectations, but also the issues in our relationships. College is a unique and fleeting experience. I would be happy to support you in managing stressors to make this a positive experience. Our work together is based on radical kindness, cultural understanding, and empathy.

Do you have a sense that people don’t get you? Do you travel a different path than everybody else? Are you living your life very differently from what other people expect you to? Do people tell you that sometimes you are thinking way outside the box? Are your parents different from you and do they want you to be someone else? Life can be tough when you feel different. Different can also mean isolated, lonely, and misunderstood. It can also mean constantly asking yourself: Will I ever fit in? Can anybody understand me? Why can’t people accept me for who I am? Am I doing the right thing? Will I be happy? That’s what I can help you with. BE DIFFERENT AND STILL FIT IN. The therapist-client relationship is a collaborative one, where you are an expert on yourself and we work together towards your goals. I believe that you should be satisfied with the services you are receiving and thus I frequently assess the clients' progress and satisfaction with my services during the duration of therapy. I strive to tailor therapy to best fit your needs. My approach to working with clients is practical and straightforward, yet warm, genuine, and supportive.

It's getting more and more difficult to resist your compulsions. You're getting upset with yourself for not having enough "willpower." You're having frightening thoughts about yourself and others. Thoughts that scare you or contradict your values and who you are as a person. You experience self-hate every time you give into a compulsion. You're exhausted by your own mental and/or physical compulsions. You struggle to trust yourself and often experience shame surrounding your thoughts. You keep it all to yourself because you fear that others will judge you or betray you. Simultaneously, you need emotional support more than ever. My clinical training includes a master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University and a master's degree in Clinical Social work from Hunter College. I utilize ERP, the gold standard for OCD, CBT, and solution-focused therapy. I also provide mindfulness tools to help clients increase awareness around behaviors. I work collaboratively with my clients, using my clinical background and their knowledge of self and am grateful to witness them transform into versions of themselves that they never thought were possible. It is a privilege to be allowed into the minds and hearts of my clients. I welcome you to reach out for a free consultation to see if we're a good fit.

I work with LGBTQ+ folks and anyone navigating trauma, OCD, anxiety, perfectionism, or big life transitions... like college students who are panic googling "what am I doing with my life??" at 2am. If you want to make sense of it all without judgment, basic "talk therapy," or silent nods behind a clipboard and want a therapist who keeps things chill, real, and sometimes even funny - I'm your girl. Whether you're spiraling over every “what if,” feeling stuck in patterns that stem from the past, or feeling like you’re losing your mind trying to figure out who you are & where you’re going, we'll work through this together.

If you’re looking for a therapist who shows up like a regular person, and not a blank slate, look no further. In this room, you won’t get a lot of blank “I see” or “Ahh.” Instead, you’ll have a therapist who is warm, empathetic, and (most importantly) FUNNY. I aim to make the therapy room a space where you can show up exactly as you are. That is, authentically you, whatever that looks like on any given day. We can make space to laugh, to cry, to feel what it is you need to feel in order to help you grow into the you that you want to be. I want this relationship to feel collaborative and within your boundaries. If something we’re doing isn’t working for you, tell me and let’s work together to find something that works for you!

Do you struggle with setting boundaries, people pleasing, or burning out from perfectionism and a constantly full calendar? Maybe you're juggling school, work, relationships, family expectations, and everything else life throws at you while still feeling like you should be doing more. You might be the person others turn to, but underneath the surface, you're anxious, overwhelmed, or struggling with self doubt. I'm an LCSW with 9 years of experience working with college students and professionals, with a focus on the queer community, neurodivergent individuals, and people living with chronic illness. I've supported clients navigating ADHD, anxiety, burnout, LGBTQ+ identity, complex family and relationship dynamics, substance use, and trauma. I'm trained in CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and executive functioning strategies. It can be challenging to balance everyday life while figuring out what actually works for you. Maybe you struggle to meet deadlines, keep track of everything, shift between tasks, or figure out where to even begin when there's too much on your plate. Add perfectionism, burnout, identity, relationships, or family and community expectations into the mix, and it can be hard to know what you actually need or where your own needs end and everyone else's begin. These patterns often have roots in earlier relationships and experiences, including family dynamics that shape how we relate to ourselves and others. In therapy, we'll explore both the past and present to understand these patterns while building new perspectives, coping skills, and ways of responding that honor your needs. We’ll work together to identify what you want to change and what might be getting in the way. This might look like setting boundaries with family, working through perfectionism, figuring out why you keep getting stuck, finding ways to manage school or work without constantly feeling behind, building more confidence in yourself, or navigating major life transitions. No matter your goals, I’ll be here to support you with warmth, curiosity, silliness, and honesty.

I have been a therapist for more than 30 years. I am compassionate, empathetic and supportive. I don't adhere to one particular therapeutic type, since one size doesn't fit all. I tend to be down-to-earth, and can offer practical advice, and when called for, a sense of humor.
