Therapists for college students near Philadelphia, PA
Over my time in practice, I have come to learn that much of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors stem from parental figures and relationships, childhood experiences, significant life events, as well as responses to the here and now. My goal is to work collaboratively with you, to support you, and to assist you in attending to what you feel is important through the cultivation of a strength-based, empathetic, and warm environment.
People come to treatment for a variety of reasons. I view each person as unique and strive to assist individuals to overcome challenges and meet the goals that are important in their lives. As we work to let go of stress, pain, behaviors, thoughts and feelings that are not useful in the present, new healthier patterns can emerge and be adopted.
Acorn Psychotherapy offers outpatient teletherapy to women, lgbtqia+ folks, and couples.
If you haven’t heard this yet, you aren’t too much or too complicated. You can be helped and it is not too late. You do not have to do this alone. I want to be on this journey with you. Whether we explore your addiction or relationship with substances, put the pieces together again after a life transition or relationship ending, or navigate challenges including family conflict/estrangement or a loved ones addiction, I am here to support and help. I'm a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) specializing in addiction and substance use. With over 13 years experience, I have seen and heard it all. Addiction comes with many complications; I anticipate that. I treat co-occurring issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic medical issues, women's issues, and complex family dynamics. It's ok to not know where to start. My goal is to give you a space where you can feel free to explore the things you keep tucked inside. You set our pace. I am client-centered using CBT with motivational interviewing and experiential work. I believe that there are connections between past and present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Being a student is a tough time of transition. There are alot of feelings that are swirling around, along with having to "stay on top of all of your academics and/or sports". For many students, it is the first time living without parents/guardians. You have to deal with faculty, and manage expectations from others as well as yourself. College life can be fun, but at the same time very stressful! Sometimes the stress causes other problems to pop up that you have not had to deal with before, or perhaps you did, but on a manageable level. Counseling can be an opportunity to talk through alot of these frustrations, and challenges. It can be a time to also find out about other resources in the world that can be helpful. Either way, it is YOUR time to figure out what would be helpful, and to get it! Reach out to Rays of Hope, we are eager to assist you during this time! PLEASE NOTE: I ALSO have office hours in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. which is right outside of Phila. near City Line Avenue.
Hi! I’m Kimberly Carlin, LPC, and I work with women over 18 who want support navigating the ups and downs of life. Between work, relationships, family responsibilities, and personal growth, it’s normal to feel stressed, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to cope. I help women work through: * Anxiety, stress, and burnout * Relationship challenges and setting boundaries * Trauma or emotional abuse * Grief or major life transitions * Body image and disordered eating * Pressure to be “perfect” or meet high expectations * Life transitions such as parenting, career changes, or caregiving responsibilities Here’s what therapy with me looks like: CBT: Helps you spot unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier ones. ACT: Teaches you to accept feelings and focus on what matters most. Somatic Therapy: Uses your body to release stored stress, tension, and anxiety. IFS (Internal Family Systems): Helps you explore different parts of yourself and understand conflicting thoughts, emotions, or behaviors. Inner Child Work: Helps you understand how past experiences shape your feelings today. EMDR: A specialized approach that helps painful memories feel less overwhelming. Christian Counseling and Prayer (optional): For women who desire, therapy can integrate Biblical principles, prayer, and exploring God’s perspective of who you are to guide healing, self-worth, and decision-making. I provide online therapy and am licensed in multiple states, so you can continue care even if you travel, work remotely or move. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel understood, gain clarity, and build tools to navigate life with more confidence, self-compassion, and faith-based guidance if desired. Whether you’re feeling stressed, struggling with relationships, wanting to process trauma, or navigating major life transitions, I’m here to support you. Going to college is the hugest leap you may ever take! It is the end of childhood and the beginning of adulthood, all starting with leaving everyone and everywhere you've known for 18 years and finding yourself in a new, strange place, away from your friends, your family, your pets, your school and your stuff that all gave you comfort. You have to learn how to DO college, make new friends, study for college exams, write excellent papers, focus on preparation for a lifelong career, negotiate sexual situations, plentiful drugs and booze. It is exciting and amazing and anxiety producing and overwhelming at times. Problems DO manage to follow you to college, like focus or learning issues, family dysfunction, reactions to STRESS! Therapy is helpful in being able to talk through all of these experiences and feelings, strategizing to get a better sense of control. We specialize in reducing anxiety, depression, panic disorders, social anxiety and shyness, study inhibition, relationship issues, eating disorders and STRESS! All sexual orientations and ethnicities welcomed.

Sometimes, everyone feels held hostage by their racing thoughts, intrusive memories, impulsive behaviors, low mood or existential dread. Sound familiar? I help clients looking to overcome these challenges so you can be the best version of yourself. I have over 10 years of experience in the field and primarily work with clients healing from trauma, including complex and developmental trauma. I also enjoy helping clients overcome people-pleasing tendencies, substance dependencies, anxiety and low-self worth.
I believe that therapy should set you up to live real life, so I’m all about helping my clients develop coping skills to deal with life’s stressors and challenges. Let’s be honest - fixing all of your problems isn’t very realistic, is it?? I also emphasize being realistic about how our minds work. How many times have you had an unpleasant thought or emotion that you tried to banish from your mind once and for all, just to notice that the thought or emotion came back? That’s why I work with clients to change their relationship with distressing thoughts, emotions, and symptoms instead of trying to avoid or change them. I support my clients in recognizing that as long as we don’t let distressing thoughts and feelings overpower us, we are free to make choices that add up to create a fulfilling life. My therapeutic style is very collaborative and inquisitive. I believe that therapy is a group project between my client and me, meaning that it is important for clients to be engaged in therapy and apply what they learn in therapy to their own lives outside of session. I’m the type of therapist that asks open-ended questions to help my clients make connections between their past and their present lives and between their internal experiences and external environment. Therapy is a long game, so to speak. I believe in the importance in supporting my clients in taking their time to build better understanding of the self, as well as learning helpful coping skills. We’ll go at your pace - there’s no rush!
