I'm Zack, a clinical therapist specializing in evidence-based treatment for children, teens, and adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders: social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic attacks, specific phobias (fear of heights, flying, animals, etc.), body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs): hair pulling, skin picking, nail/lip/cheek biting, & attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I earned my master's degree in social work from Widener University and my bachelor's degree in psychology from Pennsylvania State University. Outside of my practice, I enjoy spending time with family, golfing, playing video games, and following my favorite sports teams. Over the past decade, I’ve worked within various healthcare systems, specializing in OCD, anxiety-related conditions, BFRBs, ADHD, and depression. I am certified in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) through The Beck Institute, a rigorous process involving many hours of training and consultation with clinical psychologists specializing in CBT. I am certified in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and have received extensive training and consultation through the University of Pennsylvania Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA). I am a member of the International Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Foundation (IOCDF). I have also received specialized training in Comprehensive Behavioral (ComB) Treatment, Habit Reversal Training (HRT), & Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have held leadership roles including Director, Manager, and Supervisor of Behavioral Health across multiple healthcare systems. These experiences have provided me with a deep understanding of workplace stress and burnout, making me especially attuned to the needs of professionals navigating high-demand environments. In addition to my private practice, I work as a Behavioral Health Clinician in the Emergency Room at Main Line Health System, providing psychiatric crisis assessments and support to individuals and families during some of their most vulnerable moments. I also teach CBT to physician residents within the Psychiatry Program, sharing evidence-based strategies to support mental health care in various settings.

College students can be particularly susceptible to these kinds of distress. When you're trying to manage intense coursework and maintain a satisfying social life while also considering what kind of a life you might want to live and the kind of person you want to be, it is not unusual to struggle with feelings of stress, fear, anxiety, and depression. Searching for a therapist can also seem intimidating, particularly during a stressful phase of life; however, it is my goal to ease the process and be of help. Your mental health is important and deserves attention, especially if you are not feeling well. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or feel I might be of help. It would be my pleasure to work with you.
I believe that therapy is a wonderful way to explore inner thoughts and feelings in a safe, supportive, encouraging environment. I enjoy working with college-age students who are struggling with a variety of challenges such as trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD, post-partum, miscarriage, and relationship difficulties. I believe in the integration of body, mind, and spirit and the importance of bringing balance to one's life for optimal functioning. Our journey together would work toward wellness and healing in a trusting, safe, and secure relationship. I integrate a variety of therapies to best suit my clients' needs, including EMDR, Internal Family Systems, trauma-focused therapies, and traditional talk psychotherapy. I have a certification in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, as well as training in Internal Family Systems therapy. I am dedicated to helping my clients heal from past and current traumas through the power of a trusting, secure therapeutic relationship where they can discover and know their inner strengths.

Through encouragement and empowerment, we will work to reduce and heal the challenges you face. Having supported a wide variety of clients, I am passionate about working with both men and women to find and maintain freedom from their eating and co-occurring disorders by gently confronting barriers, building on strengths and challenging unhelpful relational and thought patterns. I am also offering clinical supervision to prelicensed professionals in PA and Washington DC who are in, or looking to work in, the eating disorder field. I am a licensed clinical social worker in private practice where I see adults and adolescents. I am here to support and encourage you to reach life goals that will enhance your overall feelings of peace, joy and belonging. I provide a safe and nurturing environment that enhances the therapeutic process and encourages my clients to identify their strengths and embrace positive change. My therapy model is based on Aaron T. Beck's development of cognitive behavioral therapy. This approach identifies the distortions in our way of thinking that drives our emotions and behaviors. By identifying distortions and redefining them we can than choose an emotion and behavior and feeling that fits our new way of thinking. My goal is to provide a therapy model that incorporates mind, body and soul wellness. I am presently accepting new patients and I am credentialed through most of the major insurance plans. Please reach out by email when possible.
Are you new to therapy, have you tried it before without finding the right fit, or perhaps you are looking for a new approach? My name is Gus Culbertson (he/him/his) and I am a Clinical Social Worker. I started Balancing Perspectives Practice because I believe that when we take an intentional look at the perspectives we hold about ourselves and the world around us, and then make this into a practice, it can allow us to lean into our most authentic and balanced selves. I am here to support clients in finding a good-fit therapist. I have worked for a number of years to understand the unique challenges faced by young adults, medical and health science students & professionals, and front-line workers. I also work with individuals navigating life transitions, unhelpful self-expectations, procrastination, depression, anxiety, and identity struggles. Many of those I work with want to learn how to engage intentionally with the range of emotions, communicate effectively with others, decrease stress, incorporate mindful/spiritual practices, and explore differing perspectives. I am a firm believer in the power of the therapeutic relationship as a catalyst for change. My approach is tailored to each client and is rooted in a values-based, emotion-focused, and mindful practice. If you are ready to begin this journey, please contact me for a free consultation. I initially work with clients to outline their goals in care to see if we might be a good fit to work together in individual therapy. If we are, I look forward to working together to help you recognize your strengths, build resilience, and cultivate authenticity to find the fulfillment you deserve. If, for whatever reason we are not, I can support you in finding the right fit through my services as a Clinical Care Manager. This is of note if you would like assistance in finding a therapist who is in-network with your insurance.

Being human can be confusing, overwhelming and painful. Despite this predicament, I believe therapy can help shed the feeling of a constricted life and achieve an authentic and empowered sense of self. Through a collaborative and compassion-centered approach, I aim to help hold in a non-judgmental space the challenging parts of life and encourage next steps in your journey. The technique I use most often is trauma-sensitive mindfulness combined with concepts and methods from CBT, DBT and MI while applying lenses such as attachment, familial, cultural, generational and that of global systems.

Guessing your way through life is stressful. I work with college students who are realizing that there's a lot of things that they weren't taught in school and are ready to take control of their future. Now that you have more freedom and choice, you also have to figure out what to do with it. Who are you? Who do you want to be? What do you want to do with your life? How do you get there? If you're starting out college, you might be trying to get yourself into a routine, make new friends, navigate the campus dating scene, decide on a major, or handle the stress of midterms/finals. Maybe you're past that part of your college experience, but you still haven't found a good solution to those problems: still putting off studying, dealing with friend drama, having ups and downs with dating, etc. And if you're getting towards the end of your college experience, you might be worried out about what you're going to do after college and what that will look like. You don't need to figure all that out on your own. I help people get to the root of their problems so that they can understand themselves and others better. If you can understand your past and unlearn things that aren't helping you anymore, then you can replace them with healthy ways to move forward with confidence.
People make the decision to engage in therapy for a multitude of reasons, all of which are valid. Some people may be ambivalent about making changes in their lives, while others might feel eager and ready to start the process. Regardless of where you find yourself on that continuum, I am here to support you. Although my background has mainly been focused around eating and body image, I see clients who are experiencing a variety of concerns: relationship issues, anxiety/depression, life transitions, unhappiness, etc. Prior to private practice, I worked with undergraduate and graduate students at Harvard University Counseling and Mental Health Service, with a specialty in supporting student-athletes and individuals with eating and body image concerns. I have also worked in psychiatric inpatient programs as well as eating disorder treatment programs. My therapeutic style is integrative, which means that our work together will draw on various approaches determined by your concerns and goals. My hope is for us to build a trusting relationship that will allow for honest reflection, helpful challenge, and ultimately positive change so that you may be able to lead a more fulfilling life.

I have experience with the following clinical concerns: stress management, depression, anxiety, mood regulation, social anxiety, relationship and family distress, attention and motivation challenges, self-esteem, perfectionism, and grief.
