My clients experience sadness and anxiety and adjustment to leaving home and college. Transitions are difficult and they need coaching and mentoring as well as counseling. Meeting new people roommates and classes are major stressors. Students get overwhelmed. Students who I see also worry about managing the social aspects as well.

I am an LPC with professional experience including over five years as a therapist and five years working in residential treatment settings, serving populations ranging from adolescents to the elderly. I operate from a cognitive-behavioral perspective, but also utilize positive psychology, systemic, and solution-focused theories. I have worked with a range of clients, including offenders, individuals struggling with substance abuse issues, families, couples, groups, and individual clients. Finally, I have a strong desire to provide counseling services to veterans and their families, given my family history of military service. My style is collaborative, intentional, and forward-focused. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other theoretical strategies to assist clients in establishing more effective patterns of thought and behavior. I also enjoy helping clients explore larger concepts as needed. I enjoy working with clients to establish healthier life patterns and experience positive life changes.

"The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination."- Carl Rogers. Sometimes in life, our path becomes tangled and foggy. It can be hard to find the next steps in moving forward in life. I can help you find the next steps to move forward in the journey that is called life. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has worked with children, adolescents, and adults to help find their true potential and thrive in life. I enjoy working with individuals who are interested in promoting well-being in themselves and in relation to others. Mindfulness instruction is available as a key component of my therapy should this focus be desired. Studies have shown that a regular practice of mindfulness supports an enriched experience of life, feelings of well being, better ability to cope with stress and pain, reduced panic, anxiety, and fear and better concentration. While my private practice setting is refreshing and tranquil with views of trees and birds, I currently only offer tele-health, accessible from the comfort of your own home or office. A mindfulness practitioner since 1986, I began developing the application of mindfulness for specialty disorders in 1997 for clients (anxiety, panic, Attention Deficit Disorders, concussion, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, and other cognitive and neurological disorders). This work has been highly successful and rewarding. I am a warm and caring professional who spends the time required with each client. I am a certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher and ordained by Teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. I offer neuropsychological assessment of learning and attention disorders for children and adults and day long mindfulness workshops and groups. Neuropsychological and Academic testing does accommodations is currently suspended until further notice due to COVID-19.

Making that first call feels like failing. You have "no time for therapy"--you're already spread thin. You've tried everything, but nothing seems to be working. And even when it does, it's only for a moment. You are ready to feel like you are thriving instead of merely surviving. ...It's a little terrifying to think about diving into the things weighing you down though, right? Ask yourself this (and be honest!): "Can I keep going like I am now? And if I do, what will that look like?" Change occurs when--despite the discomfort and not quite knowing how you'll get there--all you know is you can't keep doing what you're doing. I've been told by many clients that I really hear them. I believe in asking YOU what you'd like to gain from therapy and asking YOU about your goals--not just basing them on a diagnosis. I don't talk *at* you--I talk *with* you. I take a "real" and informal approach. Laughter, making faces or noises are all acceptable ways to express emotions! I welcome you to bring coffee (or water or tea!) and sit wherever you feel comfortable in the room. It doesn't matter your age--you can color or draw, or just sit back and drink your coffee while we chat. I have a laid back style and it's important that my therapy room is a comfortable, relaxing environment. Reach out--let's see if we may be a good fit!

Through over 20 years of practice I have found that people usually seek therapy because they are experiencing something that is too difficult to bear without additional help and support. Life can seem unjust when bad things happen to good people, or when best efforts are not leading to desired outcomes. These challenges are opportunities for renewal and growth. Especially during a time of crisis or transition, the ability to safely connect and openly share thoughts and feelings, while receiving genuine emotional support, clarifying insights, and effective tools for coping can be truly life changing. This is the gift of therapy. I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders (such as OCD, tic disorders, hair pulling, skin picking and hoarding). I use evidence-based treatment models (ERP, HRT, CBT and EMDR). Research tells us that the therapeutic relationship is a critical factor in determining outcomes, so finding a therapist who is right for you is key. Call for a free 15 minute phone consultation so that you can interview me and decide if I'm a good fit.
